Big month of donations for Rachael's Wish
The Wimmera Health Care Group Foundation has donated the second installment of their pledged $250,000 towards the Wimmera Cancer Centre project.
Foundation chairman Dr Don Johns OAM presented Wimmera Health Care Group chief executive Chris Scott and health care group board member and Wimmera Cancer Centre Project Steering Committee chair Richard Goudie with a $50,000 cheque on 22 February.
The donation has further bolstered the already large number of donations from community members and organisations and pushed the overall fundraising tally close to $700,000.
“We are delighted to hand over our second instalment of our $250,000 guaranteed funds towards the Wimmera Cancer Centre,” Dr Johns said.
“The project was initiated by the foundation and in my belief is one of the most important projects the Wimmera has ever had as it affects absolutely everyone. The sooner we get this built and can provide this service the better.”
The Horsham Country Music Association also made a substantial donation to the cancer centre this month, raising $17,500 at an event at the new Horsham Town Hall on January 31. A donation of $5,000 from Ben and Joan Bentley of Warracknabeal was included in this donation.
Association secretary Lyall Wheaton said Horsham Country Music chose to donate to the Wimmera Cancer Centre Project as several committee members have been affected by cancer.
“We have been operating nearly 10 years, and during that time four members have been impacted by cancer,” Mr Wheaton said.
“Of those four members, three have lost their battle so this is a cause close to our hearts.”
Mr Scott said the continuing support of fundraising for the Wimmera Cancer Centre was exceptional.
“The support this project is receiving is overwhelming. We receive a lot of inquiries from people wanting to donate, or asking how they can help,” Mr Scott said.
“Because of the generosity of our community we are well on our way to reaching our target of a minimum $1 million in local fundraising. We are very grateful for all the support we have been shown.”
